Yoga Etiquette
Yoga is a discipline. Even though your practice is individual, you share the room with others. To offer each student the best possible experience, we ask that you follow proper yoga etiquette.
During Class
- Class is 90 minutes. Plan to stay the entire time. Leaving the room is strictly limited to emergencies. Let the instructor know if there is an emergency.
- No pagers, cell phones, etc in the yoga room.
- No shoes, keys, bags, etc in the yoga room. The outside doors are locked when class begins, so your belongings are safe in the changing rooms.
- Mats and towels are a must.
- Focus on only yourself in the mirror.
- Energy flows best within the room when we move in and out of postures as a group. Try to practice complete stillness in between postures. If you fall out of a posture, try to get back in it, or stand still until the posture is over. Moving around can distract others who are trying to balance.
- Limit your postures to the Bikram Series. Please do not substitute with other types of yoga during the class.
After Class
- Observe silence after the final savasana meditation.
- Leave the room quietly.
Practice your yoga consistently, as the effects of yoga are cumulative. Attending class on a regular basis will have a profound and lasting effect on your body and mind. Regular attendance allows you to develop an awareness of the edge between challenge and an unhealthy struggle. Ideal attendance is three times per week minimum.
